Matthew chapter one verse 18 begins with these words. “This is how the birth of Jesus came about:”

From there, it goes on to give the account we are all familiar with-Mary and Joseph, angels and shepherds, a baby and a stable. Yet within the story, we see other things. An unplanned pregnancy, a perceived betrayal, a near divorce. These were the circumstances that Jesus was born into, this is how the birth of Jesus came about…

So today, if your world is filled with disappointment, betrayal, confusion or tragedy-read the first chapter of Matthew with fresh eyes and realize that God is working in the midst of your story. Open your heart like Mary and allow Christ to be born into whatever you might be going through today. Merry Christmas!
