And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them and they were terrified. But the angel said to them “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” Luke 2:8-10
… keeping watch over their flocks at night. Has that been you lately? Are you a mom with little ones who have been sick? Maybe you’ve been up watching over your little flock and you’re tired, and you wonder if you’re alone in it. Or perhaps you have older ones that have strayed and you have been up praying for their safe return, and your world feels a little dark.
The shepherds were alone that night, outside the city, in darkness, when everything changed. Suddenly their world was lit up like a Christmas tree (see what I did there?) and they had all the heavenly hosts to keep them company!
They weren’t forgotten, nor are you.
However you find yourself “keeping watch” and whatever your flock may look like, the message that the shepherds received that night is yours: “Don’t be afraid. There is good news. There will be great joy!”
Merry Christmas!!
